The Lego Room

A year or so ago we bought bunk beds for all 4 boys to be in the same room.  It seemed a little bit nuts, and a lot of people were sincerely surprised that we would be putting all 4 boys together.  But Z was happy to be with his brothers, and I didn't want to split up the little boys, and really, it just seemed like it would work. 

I also kind of wanted the boys to get used to being together.  I'm not sure that any of them will ever have their own room, and I kind of love the idea of them sharing a room forever...we might just need a bigger room for all 4 of them.  As it is now they all do pretty well sharing...they sleep through anything and they have a good time playing (thankfully only for a bit) before they go to bed. 

The other bedroom became a craft/Lego room.  I was tired of having craft stuff all over the place, and the same could be said for Legos.  We had an over the door shoe organizer with all of our craft stuff in it, and Dorothy gave us a 4' round table for the extra room.  We had 2 bookshelves that completely filled one wall to be used for whatever. 

In the past few months it has completely morphed into a Lego room.  The boys will still do crafts but they are all old enough to get what they want and bring it out to the kitchen to work on it.  Nate made a bin of sorts for the table that sort of contains the Legos.  Each boy has one full shelf (the entire length of one wall) for himself.  The littles are old enough to understand now that it is "his" shelf and no one else can touch the creations he has made and/or stored on there. 

The boys will play in there for HOURS.  Maybe not on end, but over the course of a day they spend a solid few hours playing in there.  They imagine together, build, play, laugh, potty talk, share, sing, giggle, and are just generally silly.  Sometimes one will go and play quietly by himself while the others are somewhere else.  I love watching them think as they create their own little worlds, and hearing the stories of the creations. 

When the boys wake up in the morning (if it is late enough) they just head to the Lego room to play until it is time to get up.  This allows us to sleep in until normally close to 8 on Saturday mornings...what a treat!!!

When friends are over they all just hang out in the Lego room.  There are currently 6 boys in there, yesterday there were 7.  Everyone is happy and contained and having fun.  It is FABULOUS.

It is one of the best decisions we have made!
