I signed Z up for a "KinderCamp" at our local rec center. I couldn't decide between Bugs and Butterflies or Weird Science, but he wanted Bugs and Butterflies.
I wasn't quite sure what it was going to be, but I figured he would love it.
Was mama right!
15 hours (5 days, 3 hours a day) of bugs and crafts. Sooooo up his alley. Sooooo not up mine. They made a paper chain bug. A ladybug rock. A bug mask. A coffee filter butterfly. A bug catcher. A puffy caterpillar. A handprint spider. I don't even remember it all.
They sang songs. They went on a bug hunt. They played in water. They ate snack. It was camp!
He happily wore his bug shirts and his spider hat to camp, and told the counselors everything they ever wanted to know about spiders and bugs.
He loved it so much that he continued to work on the crafts at home. They made a 4 chain paper bug at camp, but he came home and wanted to make it longer. I gave him scissors, a glue stick, construction paper, and an hour, and he had that up to 31 chains! He took his bug mask and decided he needed to add more eyes on it, and that it needed some feathers as well. I sure wasn't going to stop him. (Special thanks to Grandma Dorothy for stocking our craft drawer!)
He thought the bug hunt was the best. He brought home 2 daddy longlegs, and we got a slug later on at Dad and Dena's house. We let them go into the compost pile the next day though.
At any rate, he loved it. It was nice and kind of quiet here, for just long enough!
I think that is an attempt at a smile underneath his bug mask.
