I kind of love how Christmas worked out this year, and the fact that it will probably work out this way for most Christmas' from here on out. We will have about 24 hours as JUST our family to celebrate. Love extended family, but love to create our own traditions.
After celebrating with my family, we headed out to church. There is no child care, which was fine, but our kids were in rare form. L wanted NOTHING to do with sitting still, he was talking and giggling, N was moving between our laps and another girlfriends, C was pretty good...it was pretty crazy. Reminded me of our trip to DC 2.5 years ago in the hotel...read here if you don't know that story.
Anyway.
We made it home and let the boys open their Christmas Eve gifts: new pjs and a new movie (this year it was Despicable Me). They ate dinner (leftover appetizers and random food) and drank hot chocolate and went to bed late.
Christmas morning the boys happily played in the Lego room until 8, so I was able to get all the yummy breakfast foods made. Since we don't do Santa, they were excited but not through the roof about their presents. We read from Luke the real story of Christmas over our breakfast.
Then we got started with stockings and candy :) I got them some foam swords and dollar spot flashlights that were a hit. They all got new underwear and a fun character shirt, and a new book. The big gifts were a big Lego set, a Batman toy cave thing, and a camera (which broke 2 days later...need to return that!)
Z got to work on his Lego set while the other boys played with the Batman toy, and Nate and I slowly got us packed up and ready to head to Kirksville.
It was a slow, leisurely morning...pretty much perfect.
