Z had an ecology festival in his gifted class for the end of the year. They do presentations on what they have learned. It was kind of a mini/first time science project.
He was VERY nervous about it. He hadn't been upset about going to CCL in a long time, but as this got closer every week he would be more nervous and more upset about going. His teacher had asked us to help prep them for their "presentation" by asking them questions about what they were doing...but he would give us nothing. That morning he was so nervous I finally promised him ice cream afterwards ;)
They started out with some sort of interpretive dance/PE class/chant thing about the Earth.
Here he was being a raindrop.
After the dance thing, he led me to the artwork he had made over the semester. This shows how they talked about land, earth, and air (and not polluting, recycling, reusing, blah blah blah...wait...wasn't I a science teacher?).
Here was his project! He worked with another student. They did the entire thing themselves, with some leading from their teacher (who also spell checked for them). My favorite is the middle sign on the right: Would you like clean water or water with poisons in it? Green (poison) with "On" above it or blue (clean) with yes above it. :)
He and his partner took turns fielding questions from other parents.
He made the printout for his shirt and his teacher ironed it on. Clearly too small for him, just right for other kindergartners.
He did fine, answered questions well, looked the adults in the eye. And he said it wasn't really so bad after all. Good work, buddy.
We went out for ice cream when he was done. Love this kid!
