Trunk or Treat

Our church always has a Trunk or Treat the Friday before Halloween.  I love it because it is fun to see all of our friends in their costumes, it's another opportunity to get candy ;), it is a nice trial run for practice on jokes and politeness, and it's just fun!
We let the little boys walk around the parking lot instead of putting them in the wagon...that made life a bit more difficult.  They all kind of went their own ways, go figure.  I think they each got a few pieces, but then promptly decided to eat the candy, wrapper and all.  All of the little boys would take a piece then offer it back to the giver.  Sometimes they even tried to give the candy they already had (mashed up, covered in drool and tooth marks) back to a totally different person!  Unfortunately, the boys still are not great with words, so we didn't get "thank you" out of them much, but there was a lot of waving bye-bye.
Z got a chance to work on his joke (the same as last year, since he was a skeleton last year too).  "What is a skeleton's favorite instrument?  A trom-bone!"  (Hilarious, right?).  He was not happy at all about his costume.  He wanted to be a "ghoul" and be very scary.  I think he had a picture of a black robe and a very scary mask.  Yeah, not gonna happen.  We settled on a skeleton costume that we already had, and the mask from last year, but he was still not happy, especially when I told him he couldnt' wear the mask to school or to chuch.  In fact, he blurted out to me "But MOM!!!  I'll just look like a BABY wearing a SKELETON costume!!!"  Cracked me up!

See, we (they) do kind of look like a gang, right?

This is the first family picture taken since last Christmas...10 full months ago!
At any rate, we settled on the skeleton again.
Mike and Dorothy came in town for our party tomorrow so met us at the church and took the boys home so we could stay for the semi-annual meeting.  After it was over, Nate and I got to go out to dinner (at 9pm, like "real" grownups!).  What a treat that was!
