So proud of L for learning to ride his 2 wheeler! We told him he would learn how when he turned 5. He was pretty resistant to it. The littles all got scooters for Christmas from Papa Dan, and L really gained confidence and balance using that. We knew it would be key to him learning to ride his bike. See, L is very much a kid who does stuff on his own time. He is stubborn as a mule if he doesn't want to do something.
So we took off his training wheels a few months ago and just left his bike there. One morning I told him to get all his best, fastest clothes on, because he was going to learn to ride his bike that day! He got on board with it (thankfully) so we took off.
His big problem was not balance, but was that he didn't want to pedal. On the second time down the street as I'm hollering at him to pedal I'm hoping no one is listening ;) I finally bribed him with candy for the third time (he was about to quit) and he just got it, and not even halfway down the street he says "hey, pedaling isn't so hard!".
Since then he has learned to go faster (still not quite with the others yet) but his balance is great. He also learned to start and stop himself (yay!!!) within a week, and that is huge!
He got his shake (chocolate) and now the boys are all happily riding up and down the street together. Love it!
The boys are all starting to love to ride together, yay!!! They will just ride around and "talk about minecraft". Whatever makes them happy... :)
